X (Twitter) cleanup: Why didn't Block Party block every reposter or delete every post?

Rate Limits

Block Party's content and experience tools blocks users and deletes posts by scrolling and clicking the same pages and buttons that you would on X. X attempts to limit this type of browser automation by making it harder and harder for you to perform the same action repeatedly. These limitations are often visible in your site experience and may look like:

  • Pages, posts, or user profiles taking longer to load
  • Failing to load more posts on your profile or timeline
  • Failing to load more reposters on the post engagement page
  • Preventing actions like blocking or deleting from taking effect even when clicked
  • Logging you out of your account

If you have thousands of posts to delete or selected a "delete posts before" date that is more than a year ago, these tactics make may make it difficult for Block Party to scroll back far enough to locate all of your posts. Similarly, If you are trying to block reposters on a popular post with thousands of reposters, Block Party may not be able to load all reposters before hitting X's rate limit.

Here are some things you can try if Block Party is failing to delete more posts or block more accounts:

  • Try again. Our tool may get interrupted, but will attempt to continue where it left off.
  • Take a short pause. Letting some time pass helps ease some of X's site limits and allows Block Party to load more posts to delete or reposters to block.
  • Select a different timeframe for deletion. If Block Party is having trouble reaching older posts, selecting a more recent timeframe or "All posts" may allow deletion to proceed and bring older posts to the top of your timeline for easier deletion on subsequent attempts.
  • Select a different post to block from. X may allow you to load and block more reposters on a different post even if no more accounts are shown on another post.

Other Blocking Discrepancies

Outside of rate limits, the final count of accounts blocked may be different from the displayed number of reposters on X for several reasons.

  1. New Reposters: more people may have reposted after Block Party finishes blocking. In this case, you can try again to continue blocking new reposters
  2. Previously Blocked Users: if you have already blocked some of the reposters, the total blocked may be less than the total reposters that X shows.
