When you’re wading into the discourse on trending topics on Twitter, your mentions can get…interesting. Whether you’ve experienced an onslaught of bots because you innocently mentioned crypto, or accidentally invoked the wrath of protective stans with your latest hot take on a pop artist (oops), the noise can drown out the real conversations you want to be having.
Today, we’re introducing Keyword Filters, a new way to proactively clean up the mess in your mentions before it takes up too much of your precious mental space.
Keyword Filters automatically mute any account that mentions you and has a specific term or emoji in their username, display name, or bio.
‍
‍
To get started with Keyword Filters, select “Edit Filters” in the main menu, and try out the new “Keywords” option. You can add individual words, phrases, and even emojis:
‍
If you’re on a Basic plan, you can test out keyword filtering with one term. If you’re on a Premium plan, go ahead and add as many terms as you like. (And if you can’t afford a Premium account but really need one, please drop us a line at community@blockpartyapp.com—we’d love to help.)
If you’re very online (we are), you’ve undoubtedly heard about leadership and platform changes coming to Twitter. We’re excited to see more moves by Twitter to open their APIs so we can bring you even more tools to manage your online experience, and we’re hopeful that some of these broader company changes will lead to even more options on that front. Only time will tell what the outcome of these strategic decisions will be, but one thing is clear: it’s never been more important to give users like you the power to shape your Twitter experience.
Here at Block Party, we remain committed to building the tools you need to set your own boundaries. Whether you’re looking to filter out a little noise to keep enjoying the platform, or want every bulk block and auto-mute option to keep your mentions pristine, we’re here to help you reclaim your social experience—no matter who’s on the Twitter board.
Keyword Filters are just one additional step in this direction, but we have big plans for more to come. Have ideas for us? We’d love to hear from you: hello@blockpartyapp.com.
